2018 Major and Minor All Stars

Posted by Vestal Girls Softball at May 17, 2018 12:25PM PDT

Hello VGS Families,

So far, outside of constantly fighting the weather, the Rec Season has been great. The girls seem to be enjoying themselves and learning a lot as we go. As we start to get closer to the middle of rec season, we need to start looking at our All-Star teams and schedule. The All-Star tournament season will consist of 5-6 tournaments that we are focusing on for minors and majors. Travel softball will impact the major tournament season some but currently the tournaments we are planning towards are below. I am currently working with each league as we go.

The first five are the primary tournaments we want to participate in:
• 6/14-6/17 Owego
• 6/21-6/24 Union Endicott
• 6/28-7/1 Vestal
• 7/5-7/8 Johnson City
• 7/12-7/15 Maine Endwell
• 7/19-7/22 Binghamton East

For selected members, there will be a $50 All-Star Registration fee this year to help VGS offset the costs of the tournament fees. The uniforms will be the same as last year’s and the coaches will have ordering information and cost for new players as soon as the teams are formed.

The All-Star season is the non-rec portion of our season. This means that teams are based off of skill, availability and number of teams (A,B). The requirements are that the player is available for the majority if not all the tournaments. Selection will be done by an All-Star committee using coach’s evaluations, winter workouts, practices, rec-season games and potentially a tryout if we feel further evaluation is required for specific kids. The criteria will be around softball skills, attitude, availability and comprehension of the game consistent with level of play required for All-Stars.

Please notify your coaches by the end of this week if your child is interested in playing and identify any potential tournaments your child may miss. All-Star player selection will begin starting next week with teams being finalized so practices can begin sometime prior to the end of May.

If you have any questions, please reach out to myself or your team coaches

Thank you

Concession Stand Sign Up - Link

Posted by Vestal Girls Softball at May 14, 2018 11:36AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Our league concession stand is a great way for busy families to grab a quick snack, meal or treat on game nights. We are also able to use profits to help keep registration costs low for the league. This year we are requiring each family to work at least one shift in the concession stand so we can all share the work. The entire signup sheet for the season is out. If you have not signed up already please do so now. Coaches will be following up to verify all families have participated..

Here is the link for concession stand: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0b4fafaf22ab9-concession

THANK YOU!!!

This past week Vestal Girls Softball held two big events to help us get ready for the season.

First, on 4/12, we had our second annual VGS Spaghetti Dinner at the Vestal Elks. This was again a huge success which will provide a solid base of funds for the leagues upcoming season. We would specifically like to reach out and thank all of the wonderful sponsors, families and the girls who donated all of the resources, supplies and time to make this a great success. We would also like to thank the Vestal Elks for allowing us to utilize their space to host this event. Finally we would like to thank all of you who stopped in for a bite to eat, enjoyed the evening and shared some laughs with good friends. It was truly an enjoyable and successful evening!!

We also managed to pull off a great Moore Park Field Clean-up day today. We had a good showing to help get all the fields ready and clean the concessions and bench areas. The fields were in such great shape that we had 5 teams practice on them this afternoon! Now hopefully the weather holds out so we can start our season on-time next weekend!
Remember 4/21 is the parade and Opening Day (barring weather). For the parade we will meet at the Town Hall before 8:30AM. Parking will be tight so please plan on arriving well ahead of time. We will walk the parade route over to Angelo Field at which time our girls will depart for a day of games at Moore. Your coaches will have more details on meeting points, uniforms and game times. Look for some more communication this week.

Thank you for all your help and support….now let’s get it started!!!

Welcome to the official start of the 2018 VGS Softball Season. With the snow and rain hopefully wrapping up in the next few weeks we should be out on the fields soon. You will be receiving an email invite from our website shortly. The website will be our primary means of communication, scheduling and all other information. Your coaches will also be reaching out to introduce themselves and begin to communicate your team plan sometime this week. A few important dates that VGS is shooting for are below. More information on each will follow or be provided by your coaches.

  • 4/14 – Harold Moore Clean Up Day – (Weather Dependent) – Volunteers needed to get the fields ready for play. Coaches will be reaching out to teams to secure a volunteer list
  • 4/21 – Parade with Vestal Little League. Meet at Vestal Town Hall no later than 8:30AM. Parade walks to Little League Fields at 8:45
  • 4/21 – Vestal Softball Opening Day at Harold Moore (Weather dependent – schedule will follow)

Coaches will be reaching out with more information but we wanted to give you a heads up now

thanks

REGISTRATION CLOSING TODAY 3/23

Posted by Vestal Girls Softball at Mar 23, 2018 6:35AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

REGISTRATION CLOSING TODAY 3/23!!

Today is the last day of 2018 Registration! Immediately after the registration deadline VGS will begin identifying team numbers, naming coaches, ordering jerseys and placing kids on the proper teams. Practices will be allowed to start on 4/1/2018 so you should hear from a coach during the week of the 26th.

We have noticed issues with the online process when using a mobile device. Please use a desktop PC or you can email the for to shaunsmacnamee@yahoo.com. Checks can be payable to Vestal Girls Softball, 1 Rosewood Court, Apalachin NY 13732

If you are looking for your child to play up a division (8 year old in minors / 10 year old in majors), you need to contact me during one of our winter workouts or email me back (Respond to this email or shaunsmacnamee@yahoo.com). We have been performing evaluations all ready using coach history and winter workout play but many kids who are registered have not come to winter workouts. As an FYI – we will only be moving very advanced kids up. The intent of the league is to keep kids in the age brackets they belong so they can focus on developing the fundamentals that will make them successful as they grow.

We are also looking for kids who want to learn more pitching, especially in the ages of 8-10. We are providing some specific pitching drills at the Winter Workouts but are looking to expand this with more formal training as we move into April. Please contact me directly if interested.

We have a few winter workouts left so please come join the fun! Fridays at The Edge from 5-7pm

We look forward to hearing from you and really look forward to getting outside and starting this season!

Thanks
Shaun MacNamee
